Infantino defends World Cup investment plan as optional, democratic initiative

Gianni Infantino has publicly defended FIFA’s proposal to open part of the World Cup’s commercial structure to external investors, describing the initiative as optional and rooted in a democratic process. In a five‑minute video, the president responded to strong backlash from confederations and federations after reports suggested FIFA was considering selling equity in its flagship tournament. Infantino stressed that the FIFA Forward Enterprise is merely an offer that would only proceed with approval from the majority of FIFA’s 211 Member Associations and the FIFA Council.

He explained that the project would create a wholly owned subsidiary responsible for commercializing and organizing FIFA competitions, aiming to unlock previously untapped value. Each association could access up to 40 million dollars through the Fast Forward program. Infantino reassured fans that FIFA will retain full governance control and that major tournaments, including the Women’s World Cup, will remain unchanged.
