Larin saves Canada with late equaliser in Group B opener

Canada opened their World Cup campaign with a hard‑fought 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto, rescued by a decisive late contribution from super‑sub Cyle Larin. The hosts struggled to break down a disciplined Bosnian side making only their second tournament appearance, and fell behind after twenty minutes when Sead Kolasinac headed a corner across goal for Jovo Lukic to nod in. Canada pushed forward after the break and nearly levelled when Richie Laryea burst through, only for Kolasinac to clear off the line after the ball struck the bar.

With frustration mounting, coach Jesse Marsch turned to his bench, and Larin delivered instantly. The striker controlled smartly inside the box, spun away from his marker and fired a deflected shot past the goalkeeper to ignite the home crowd. The draw leaves Group B finely balanced, with Canada relieved to escape with a point after a difficult opening test.
